About Chinese Medicine
According to the classical medical texts in China, "one must see the minor details of disease and know their source." As a Chinese Medicine practitioner, I use techniques of looking, listening, palpating, and questioning to become aware of the mechanism behind the illness/injury. The illness can be resolved either externally with needles or massage or internally with herbal and food treatment. In acupuncture, fine metal needles are inserted into the body to stimulate specific areas of blockage and restore the flow of Qi and Blood through the meridians of the body. The proper flow of these channels is essential for the healthy living of an individual. In the realm of herbs and food, taking in substances with certain flavors, temperatures, and energetic properties suited for the patient can resolve different forms of ailments such as digestive problems, sleep and mood disturbance among many others.

How does Acupuncture feel? The initial insertion of a needle may cause a slight pinch or muscle ache but pain is rarely reported. Accurate insertion of needles should cause feelings of relief and relaxation. The sensations from Acupuncture treatments differ from person to person; some may feel relaxed and others invigorated. Successful treatment should ease pain both physically and mentally.

As an athlete, what are the benefits of Acupuncture?Sports are all-encompassing activities no matter what the level of competition. Training involves highs and lows mentally and physically and Acupuncture can benefit an individual on all of these levels. Studies show that the insertion of Acupuncture needles releases endogenous endorphins and opioids both causing positive feelings and pain relief. In addition, an Acupuncture visit provides an intentional period of rest during the day where needles and bodywork promote blood flow and improve recovery from exercise.
